Following the introduction of Aviat’s FAS Expert System frequency monitoring application as an on-premise product, we now see interest and an opportunity to offer a more robust suite of hosted services, called Expert Services. These Expert Services will augment our current services offerings, including Aviat Lifecycle Services and Advanced Technology Package.

Hosted FAS

Our first offering of this type of service is called Hosted FAS. Hosted FAS is based on Aviat’s patent-pending FAS Expert System, which is custom-built to monitor and detect interference, perform trend analysis of the network over time to track interference, and isolate problem links before noticeable impacts occur.

In addition to providing customers with a self-service portal to view their interference events and trends, Hosted FAS will also deliver analysis from Aviat engineers on interference issues. This new information will create a virtuous cycle whereby as our knowledge grows, it increases our ability to develop and offer more value-added services such as predictive diagnostics.

As a new service, Hosted FAS offers an option to previously released FAS Expert System on its ProVision Plus platform, which runs on a customer’s network. Aviat will deliver the service via AviatCloud, a customer portal for accessing services from Aviat in a secure environment which will free the customer from buying and deploying servers and updating and maintaining software in their networks.

  • Monitoring via Aviat’s NOC for 24x7x365 FAS support
  • Preventing outages by identifying interference issues before they become real problems
  • Reporting on a weekly & monthly basis by collecting and reporting on interference events and trends over time to facilitate your interference investigations in your network
  • Software upgrades maintained by Aviat thus ensuring the latest features are always up-to-date

FAS Wi-Fi Testing Summary White paper: FAS Wi-Fi Testing Summary
The purpose of this document is to describe the laboratory tests executed to understand, create, validate, and refine the rules designed and implemented in the expert system. We will focus specifically on the WiFi interference tests as those are the most critical at this point due to the imminent opening by the FCC of the 6 GHz frequency band to WiFi and other unlicensed uses. While we have conducted numerous WiFi interferer tests in our labs, we will only present in this document one of the most representative sets capturing the different interference levels and the effects that they create in the PTP microwave link.

The FAS expert system is designed to use several rules to determine if interference is happening in any of the radio links registered for monitoring in the application. As part of the overall design and implementation efforts, Aviat has conducted many laboratory tests that were intended to determine the effects of different types of interferer signals in point to point microwave links. These tests allowed not only for a better understanding of how the performance parameters of the radio link were being affected in the presence of interference; but also to the creation, validation, and refinement of the rules that were implemented in the FAS expert system. As we understand more about the impact interferers can cause to the radio links, the expert system rules will be refined, and new rules will be added. This process will be part of the overall expert system learning and evolution.
